In deed, the Uttarakhand state government is preparing to run pod taxi for traffic here, connecting the major temples of Haridwar. After being inspired by the foreign model, Uttarakhand Metro Rail Corporation has prepared proposal of 21 km track from Jwalapur to Bharat Mata Mandir Bhupatwala.
Haridwar Pod Taxi proposal will now be placed in the cabinet after approval from various departments of the Uttarakhand state government. According to Metro MD Jitendra Tyagi, Pod is a kind of driverless cable taxi. One pod can accommodate up to six passengers. 20 such taxis can be operated on this route.
Let us tell you that pod taxis are a great example of public transport in many western countries. If it were, it is the size of a car, but it does not have driver. It runs on steel track. For this, an elevated steel track is to be built in Haridwar.
20 stations will also be built above the track itself. This track will be laid mainly on the roads. Several companies have shown interest in this. Its initial cost has been estimated at Rs 1650 crore.
