Free WiFi facility will soon be available in all government offices and bodies of 1114 gram panchayats of Uttarakhand state. For this, an agreement has been signed between Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA) and BSNL. Under this, 3090 Fiber to the Home (FTTH) connections will be given.
In fact, last year the government had released a budget of 50 crores for the FTTH scheme, but the work could not start on time. To avoid budget lapse after March 31, the government has given this budget again this year. ITDA Director Nitika Khandelwal said that an agreement has been signed with BSNL for this Rs 50 crore project.

BSNL will also take care of maintenance for the next five years.
He informed that under this scheme, BSNL will provide FTTS service in 1114 gram panchayats of the state. Under its ambit, all the government institutions coming under that Gram Panchayat will be included till the Panchayat Ghar. Free WiFi facility will be available at all these places. He told that 3090 connections will be given in these villages by BSNL in a year. Along with this, BSNL will also take care of their maintenance for the next five years.
BSNL could not complete the project in the past
Under Bharat Net-1, the gram panchayats in which the work of laying optical fiber cable was given to BSNL, it could not complete it within the stipulated time. The situation is such that BSNL has not been able to complete the stuck work till today. In such a situation, questions are being raised on giving him the work of FTTH. However, ITDA director Nitika Khandelwal says that according to the rules only BSNL could have been given this work.
