Taking forward the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (Free Ration), the central government has made a provision of two lakh crore rupees for this in general budget 2023. Under this, the supply of free ration to the poor has been extended for one year under the Antyodaya scheme. This will also benefit about 13 and a half Antyodaya card holders of Uttarakhand.
In all the states including Uttarakhand, under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, rice and wheat are procured at the minimum support price (MSP). With this arrangement of the Central Government, 61 lakh 94 thousand eligible persons of the 13.5 lakh Antyodaya card holders of the state included in the National Food Security Scheme will continue to get free ration for the next one year.

The ruling BJP leaders have described the provision of free food grains for the poor in the budget as an achievement of the Modi government, while the main opposition party says that in a gap of one year, some state assembly elections and the general elections of the year 2024 will take advantage. For this, the Modi government at the Center has extended the Poor Food Scheme for one year.
