From April 1, 2023 all 5500 old government vehicles will be scrapped in Uttarakhand state. Government needed about Rs 550 crore to buy new vehicles. This misery went away from the general budget presented on Wednesday. Budget provision has been announced under the scrap policy.
Central Government has recently implemented a notification, under which the documents of 5500 government vehicles older than 15 years will not be renewed after April 1. This rule had created a big challenge for the state government. In such a situation, the government will need about Rs 550 crore to buy new vehicles.
If new vehicles are not purchased and instead of these vehicles are taken on rent, then at the rate of Rs 55000 per vehicle every month, Rs 300 crore will be spent in a year. There was also the problem that the departments where the drivers are posted would become vacant if new vehicles were not purchased.
In the general budget, there has been talk of giving the budget under the scrap policy. Due to this the state government has heaved a sigh of relief. Secretary Finance Dilip Jawalkar says that definitely the problem will go away after getting financial help from the central government. As per rules, new vehicles can be bought by removing old vehicles.
