At the same time, remote rural areas of hilly districts have been given freedom from smart meters. In the border areas of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, the system of old meters will continue.
Under the RDSS scheme of the Central Government, 16 lakh new smart meter are to be installed in Uttarakhand. These smart meters will also have a system like prepaid meters. After this, the energy corporation will not have to make rounds of consumers regarding electricity payment.
As soon as recharge is over in your new smart meter as prepaid meter, the power will automatically cut off. In this system, arrangements for relief have also been made for the consumers. Under this relief, there will be no power cut after the recharge is over at night.
UPCL MD Anil Kumar said that the tender process of UPCL has started regarding the new smart meter. Soon it will be completed. Efforts are being made to start installing new smart meters from March 2023.
