Dehradun: Electricity consumers in Uttarakhand have suffered major setback. In fact, burden of surcharge has increased in electricity bill. Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission has revised proposal of Energy Corporation to increase surcharge to 12.5%. Now an increase of three and half percent has been approved in this.
This will directly affect pockets of consumers. Electricity has become expensive from five paisa to 86 paisa per kilowatt. Energy Corporation has also given reasoning behind this.
Expensive purchases from national exchange have been cited during this summer power crisis in Uttarakhand. Energy Corporation had demanded to increase electricity surcharge in this financial year.
However, Commission has not given desired relief to Corporation. Now, due to the sudden increase in electricity demand in this summer season and coal-gas crisis in country, there was continuous shortage of electricity in Uttarakhand.
In such situation, since March, Energy Corporation was buying power from National Exchange at expensive rates. Due to the power crisis, rates reached one and half to two times higher in national market. Now electricity rates have been increased in Uttarakhand.
