Uttarakhand longest ropeway gets green signal, will reach Kedarnath in just 25 minutes

Rudraprayag: Work is underway on major projects to facilitate the Chardham Yatra. In near time, travelers will be able to reach Kedarnath Dham in just 25 minutes by ropeway.

Uttarakhand Ropeway to Kedarnath

The way has been cleared to connect Kedarnath Dham with ropeway service in Uttarakhand. This project has been approved in the meeting of National Wildlife Board. Sonprayag-Kedarnath ropeway service will be the longest service of Uttarakhand.

DPR for construction is prepared. This service will provide from Sonprayag to Kedarnath journey in just 25 minutes.

National Wildlife Board has also given consent for the construction of a 3.5 km long walkway from Rambara to Garudchatti in Rudraprayag.

In a way, board has also cleared the way for its construction, while not declaring Hemkund Sahib Ropeway in the National Wildlife Area.

RK Sudhanshu, chairman and principal secretary, Uttarakhand Bridge Ropeway and Tunnel (Bridcul), has confirmed this.

He said that now environmental permission will be taken. Thereafter tenders will be invited for the same. Considering that this area comes under the National Wildlife Sanctuary.

Uttarakhand government had written letter to the Environment Ministry for the approval of the ropeway project. Under the project, four stations on Sonprayag-Kedarnath ropeway are proposed to be built at Gaurikund, Cheerbasa, Lincholi and Kedarnath.

22 towers are to be installed in the proposed way. The cost of this 11.5 km long ropeway project has been estimated at Rs 950 crore.

Journey from Sonprayag to Kedarnath can be completed in 25 minutes. Right now it has to cover a distance of about 16 km.

Construction responsibility of Kedarnath ropeway has been entrusted to a company by National Highway Logistics Management Limited (NHLML) under Ministry of Road Transport and Highways of the Central Government. Executing agency has completed the preliminary survey for its construction.
