Politics has intensified in Uttarakhand regarding the Haldwani railway land issue. Former CM Harish Rawat is sitting on fast in Haldani regarding the matter. In the matter of encroachment of railway land, Rawat said that it is necessary to rehabilitate the people living there since time immemorial. He said that the government can rehabilitate them in a planned manner. The court has ordered the demolition of the houses of the people who have been living in Haldwani for 60 to 70 years.
On the other hand, Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya said that the state government has not presented its case properly in the court. There are many government schools, freehold land and government property at the place which the railway is telling as its land. That’s why the state government should present its case in the Supreme Court. The government has a flaw in its mind and it wants to evict the victims by any means.
The people of Banbhulpura, who are coming under the threat of railway land, are making every possible effort to save their homes. Hundreds of people gathered near Chorgaliya Road in Line No. 17 and prayed collectively. Present Imam of Masjid Bilali Maulana Mohd. Asim prayed.
Dispute over Haldwani railway land
Railways has issued a public notice following the High Court’s order to remove encroachments on railway land. In this, encroachment has to be removed up to 2.19 km from the railway station. Seven days time was given to remove the encroachment itself. The issued notice states that all unauthorized encroachments on railway land between Haldwani Railway Station Km 82.900 to Km 80.710 will be demolished. Within seven days, the encroachers themselves should remove their possession, otherwise the encroachment will be broken as per the order of the High Court. Its cost will also be recovered from the encroachers. A plan is being made to build a jail in Udham Singh Nagar if there is a need to arrest while breaking the encroachment. Two company PAC has reached Guru Tegh Bahadur School.
Encroachment area divided into four super zones
The DM inspected the international stadium on 29 December. During this, he instructed the Municipal Corporation to clean, the Jal Sansthan to run water in the stadium and the Lonivi to make generators, toilets, bathrooms and kitchens. Instructions were also given to make water, toilets and bathrooms in the Mini Stadium Haldwani. On the other hand, Lonivi has started the work of making bathroom, kitchen. Jal Sansthan has arranged water in the International Stadium. Bathrooms are also being built in the mini stadium.
The district administration has divided the encroachment area into four super zones to remove encroachment from railway land. ADM level officers will be posted in super zone and SDM level officers will be posted in zone, sector. For this, 10 ADM and 30 SDM have been sought. As the date of breaking the encroachment is coming closer, the preparations of the administration are also getting intensified. MLA met former Law Minister Salman Khurshid
The Congress has completely come on the front foot on the railway land issue. Congress MLA Sumit Hridayesh has reached out to former Law Minister Salman Khurshid for legal advice in the matter. MLA Sumit Hridayesh told that he and former Chief Minister Harish Rawat have spoken to CM Pushkar Singh Dhami on phone regarding the issue of railway land in Haldwani and urged him to follow Rajdharma. It is worth mentioning that the affected people allege that the government has deliberately allowed their land to go into the demarcation of the railway.

Former CM Harish Rawat said that the state demands from the government that this is a human problem. It should not be seen only as a legal or political problem. He said that our government had enacted the Slum Regularization Act for slums. It was also passed unanimously in the assembly. In its next phase, we have set a target of building 34,000 houses and also laid the foundation stone for it at Rudrapur. Rawat said that the work of river front development has also been started. Two to three km work has also been completed in Dehradun under the river front. Our effort was to build multi-storey buildings at some places and plans with parks and other social facilities at some vacant places. The former CM said that with the change of government, the matter came to a complete standstill. The government made only one objective that these people should be removed only and sorted out Haldwani as an experiment.
State president of AIMIM written letter to CM demanding Advocacy
State president of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) reached Banbhulpura and talked to the people in the matter of encroachment on railway land and talked about standing shoulder to shoulder with them. Said that the party’s National President Asaduddin Owaisi has also assured to take the problems of the people to the Parliament in this matter.
State President of AIMIM Dr. Nayyar Kazmi had reached Mujahid Chowk located on line number 17 of Banbhulpura on Sunday afternoon. He said that soon after the decision of the High Court came, he wrote a letter to the Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami demanding that he should represent the people of Banbhulpura in the court and present their case properly. At the same time, stating the responsibility of the displacement of the people, also demanded to make arrangements for the government. Dr. Kazmi said that one-sided action of the government will not be tolerated. Shravan Singh, who came from Punjab, said that there is great power in the movement which can make the government bow down. On the other hand, party worker Sardar Baljit Singh told the people to continue the movement in a peaceful manner by staying within the law and order.
