Chandrashekhar Vaidya: Veteran artist ‘Arya Sumant’ in ‘Ramayana’, passed away

Mumbai: Famous actor Chandrashekhar Vaidya of the 50s and 60s, who played the role of General Secretary ‘Arya Sumant’ in ‘Ramayana’, has passed away. He was 98 years old.

He passed away at his Andheri residence in Mumbai at 7.10 am on Wednesday. With his death, there has been silence in the film industry.
The death of Chandrashekhar Vaidya has been confirmed by his grandson Vishal Shekhar.

He told the media, “Grandfather passed away peacefully in his sleep. He had no disease of any kind. He was admitted to Criti Care Hospital in Juhu, Mumbai on Thursday last week due to high fever, but after the fever subsided, we brought him back home within a day.”

Vishal further said, “His wish was to spend his last days with family members at such a critical time. It was because of his wish that we had brought him home from the hospital.”
At the same time, Chandrashekhar’s son Ashok Shekhar told the media that all arrangements like hospital were already in place for his care at home.
Talking about work, Chandrashekhar Vaidya started his career as a junior artist in the 50s.
After playing the role of junior artist in many films, Chandrashekhar appeared as a hero in many films. He has done more than 110 films in his career.
Out of which he has also directed the film ‘Cha Cha Cha’ in the year 1964 and the film ‘Street Singer’ in 1966.
He played the role of Arya Sumant, the general secretary of King Dasharatha in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana.
He gained a lot of popularity from this role. Chandrashekhar was a close friend of Ramanand Sagar.
