Megastar Amitabh Bachchan on Monday said the Indian film industry has lost “another great” in the demise of veteran actress Sulochana Latkar.
Sulochana, known for her innumerable roles of a mother in Hindi and Marathi cinema, died at a hospital on Sunday after prolonged illness. She was 94 years old.
Bachchan, who played Sulochana’s on-screen son in the 1974 film “Majboor”, paid tribute to the actor on his personal blog.
He wrote, “We have lost another great of our cinema world – Sulochana ji..a gentle,generous,caring mother who worked with me in many films..She was ill for some time.. ”
The screen icon said that he is in touch with Sulochana’s family regarding her health.
“I was monitoring the situation here along with her family..but finally sad news! We can only pray in such adverse circumstances..I am hesitating to write any more..” he added.

Bachchan and Sulochana also worked in films like ‘Reshma Aur Shera’, ‘Roti Kapda Aur Makaan’, ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’ and ‘Dostana’.
A well-known actress in Marathi and Hindi cinema, Sulochana began her career in the 1940s and appeared in over 250 films.
She played mother roles extensively on-screen in Bollywood films of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, almost always dressed in a white sari. Apart from Bachchan, she worked with all the major stars of the era including Sunil Dutt, Dev Anand, Rajesh Khanna and Dilip Kumar.
Cinema personalities like Madhuri Dixit Nene and Jackie Shroff also condoled the demise of the veteran actor.
Dixit Nene remembered Sulochana as “one of cinema’s most loved and beautiful actresses”.
“His film Sangat Aika will always be my favourite. His performances in every film were memorable. I will miss our conversations, may you rest in peace. Your contribution to Indian cinema will always be remembered,” she wrote on Twitter.
Shroff, who played the actor’s on-screen son in the 1984 film ‘Andar Bahaar’, shared his picture with Sulochana with a broken heart emoticon.
Abhishek Bachchan wrote on Twitter, “Sulochana ji will be remembered as an iconic actress whose extraordinary skill and elegance made an everlasting impact on the world of Indian cinema. Om Shanti.”
Sulochana received the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award, in 1999. The actor is survived by his daughter Kanchan Ghanekar. He will be cremated with state honors on Monday.
