Joint Secretary in the G20 Secretariat and the Co-chair of the Data Working Group Nagaraj Naidu today stressed the need to look at data from the development perspective and use it for development and public welfare.
Inaugurating the side event on ‘Data for Development’ at Kumarakom, organised as part of the second G-20 Development Working Group Meeting, Mr Naidu observed that data is good only if it is timely, reliable and accessible. He said we need to realise the value of data, comfortable with its flow, and how it should be effectively utilised. He said valuable data is effectively utilised in resource allocation, smart delivery of public services as well as in public policy making.
In a televised address, Suman Berry, Vice Chairman of NITI Ayog said digitised data has the power to transform processes, enable policy-making, monitor progress and evaluate efficacy after implementation. He said the Development Working Group should collaborate and establish priorities and deliverables for creating a capacity-building network for developing countries.
In his televised address, Chief Economist of the World Bank Indermit Gill said World Bank is fully committed to bringing data to work for social, economic and sustainable development, and sought the support of the governments to achieve the goals.
