Ramnagar: Uttarakhand suffering from wood mafia that are destroying forest wealth of the state by cutting & smuggling precious woods on large scale. The same is happening in the world famous Jim Corbett National Park. These days smugglers are roaming around in Dhikuli area with saws. Here the smugglers cut down two precious sandalwood trees in ‘Pushpa’ movie style and got furious.
Smuggler’s courage are so high that they have neither fear of law & order nor forest department. Even the forest workers could not get an idea of the trees being cut. Sanjay Chhimwal, villager of Dhikuli area, said that around one o’clock late on Monday, smugglers cut sandalwood trees.
Sensing presence of the smugglers, dogs started barking. Villager raised an alarm after hearing barking of the dog. After which smugglers fled from the spot. On Tuesday morning, when he came out of the house, he saw that the tree was cut outside his house. Smugglers also took away the trees next to the Government Inter College Dhikuli.
Morning time, he hurriedly informed the forest department about it. As soon as the information was received, forest personnel reached the spot and conducted investigation. Regarding the matter, Forest Department officials said that photographs of three smugglers involved in this incident have been captured in CCTV footage. Search for accused is on. Smugglers will be caught soon.
