Uttarkashi: Draupadi’s danda peak located in Uttarkashi was considered the safest for mountaineering, but on Sunday such fierce form of nature was seen here that everyone was stunned.
Death of 19 climbers has been confirmed in Draupadi ka danda avalanche. Their bodies have been recovered, while 10 climbers are still missing.
Continuous snowfall in the area is causing problems in rescue operation. On Thursday, rescue team recovered 15 bodies from Dokrani Bamak glacier area. Four bodies were recovered on the day of incident itself.
Let us inform that on Sunday, team of Nehru Mountaineering Institute had gone out for training in the high Himalayan region.
During this an avalanche occurred, due to which 29 members were missing after being hit by the avalanche. Rescue operation started at spot from around 7.30 am on Thursday.
Team of SDRF, NDRF, ITBP, which went on foot, had reached a distance of three hours from the spot on Wednesday.
On Thursday, the rescue team reached the spot at around 7.30 pm and started the rescue operation. While, team of High Altitude War Welfare School Gulmarg landed directly on the spot from Matli helipad. 15 bodies were recovered from here.
On receiving this information, relatives gathered at helipad crying and crying. At around 2 pm, administration told the relatives that due to bad weather at Draupadi ka danda, it is not possible to bring dead bodies yet.
Waiting for the weather to clear. After a while family returned disappointed. 42 of NIM, 12 of ITBP, 8 of SDRF, 14 of High Altitude Warfare School Gulmarg (Hodge) and 12 members of Army are engaged in the rescue operation at the site of incident.
