Uttarkashi: In the avalanche of Draupadi ka Danda, the country lost its Everest winning climber Savita Kanswal, untimely. A team of 58 mountaineers who had set out for training in the high Himalayan region was hit by an avalanche on Tuesday morning.

People who died tragically in this accident include mountaineer Savita Kanswal, resident of Lonthru village. Savita, who lost her life in the Nim accident, had made a national record in May this year by successfully climbing Mount Everest and Mount Makalu within 15 days.
On Tuesday morning, a mountaineer Savita, one of the instructors who went to Nim’s Advanced Mountaineering Course in Draupadi’s Danda Peak, died due to being buried in an avalanche. Savita was a skilled instructor of Nehru Institute of Mountaineering.
On May 12 this year, Savita hoisted tricolor on Mount Everest (8848 meters), world’s highest peak. After 15 days, Savita also successfully climbed Mount Makalu (8463 m). Due to her success, there was wave of happiness in her area and throughout the district.
At the same time, after news of Savita Kanswal death came late on Tuesday evening, wave of mourning spread in entire district including her village. Late in evening, Amit Bisht, Principal of Nim, confirmed death of Everest winner Savita Kanswal in Draupadi ka Danda Avalaunch accident.
He said that Savita had done mountaineering instructor course with advance and search and rescue course from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering. Savita was an emerging mountaineer from district. Who had made her name in the field of mountaineering in a very short time.
