Rape accused BJP X-MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar will come out of jail, got bail for daughter’s marriage
Expelled BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who is serving a sentence in a rape case, has got bail from the Delhi High Court. Former MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar had moved the Delhi High Court for interim bail in a 2017 rape case against a minor in Unnao.
A division bench of Justices Siddharth Mridul and Talwant Singh directed the matter to be listed before another bench for hearing on December 22. Sengar had sought interim bail for two months to attend his daughter’s wedding. His lawyer told that the wedding rituals will start from January 18.
Sengar’s appeal is already pending in the High Court
Sengar’s appeal challenging the trial court’s verdict in the Unnao rape case is already pending in the High Court.
Sengar has sought quashing of the trial court’s December 16, 2019 order convicting him. Sengar has also sought quashing of the December 20, 2019 order, which sentenced him to imprisonment for the rest of his life.
Case was transferred from Lucknow court to Delhi court
The trial, which began on August 5, 2019, was conducted on a day-to-day basis after the case was transferred from Unnao to Delhi on the directions of the Supreme Court.
Taking cognizance of a letter written by the rape victim to the then Chief Justice, the apex court had on August 1, 2019, transferred five cases related to the Unnao case from the Lucknow court to the Delhi court and fixed the hearing on a day-to-day basis.
