Congress Working Committee members have demanded that Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot should be dropped from the race for party chief and another candidate should be selected for the top post.
Angered by conduct of MLAs of Gehlot group amid political crisis in Rajasthan and fast-changing political developments, CWC members have lodged complaint with party chief against them, saying it would not be good to trust them. Top leadership of the party should reconsider his candidature.”
Members have urged Sonia Gandhi to field another person who is senior leader and is also loyal to the Gandhi family. At the behest of Ashok Gehlot, two observers – Mallikarjun Kharge and Ajay Maken were sent to Jaipur by the party leadership. But cognizance has been taken of MLAs not meeting observers.
Shashi Tharoor to file nomination on September 30
Significantly, MLAs of Gehlot group did not attend Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting. Considering circumstances, other party leaders like Digvijay Singh and Mukul Wasnik are some of the names in list of probable candidates. Shashi Tharoor, who is in race for top post of the party, will file his nomination on September 30.
A meeting of legislature party was to be held on Sunday evening at residence of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in presence of observers, which was attended by Sachin Pilot and his group MLAs. However, Gehlot’s loyalists held meeting with cabinet minister Shanti Dhariwal at his residence, following which over 90 MLAs submitted their resignations to Speaker CP Joshi. Pilot was seen as successor of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
