Families of the victims of Air India tragedy have expressed their desire for additional information from investigators in light of a report that revealed the plane’s fuel switches were switched off, adding to the mystery surrounding what transpired.
According to the preliminary assessment released on Friday by India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, as soon as the aircraft took off, both of its fuel switches went into the cut-off position, cutting off the gasoline flow to the engines.

One of the pilots may be heard asking the other why he shut off in the voice recording from the cockpit. According to the report, the other pilot replied that he didn’t.
The day of Air India tragedy on June 12, just after taking off from Ahmedabad airport, the London-bound Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed into a medical campus, killing 241 people on board. On the ground, another 19 persons lost their lives and 67 more suffered critical injuries.
Cousin of sisters Dhir and Heer Baxi, who were killed in Air India tragedy while returning home to London after surprising their grandma on her birthday, expressed dissatisfaction with the report.
“We’re still hoping for a more transparent and honest investigation that doesn’t shy away from addressing possible mechanical flaws or lapses in protocol to avoid future potential accidents,” Ahmedabad resident Ishan Baxi stated.
“I just hope that the final report will provide complete clarity on what went wrong and who is responsible. It shouldn’t be concealed by ambiguous language.
“It should, above all, advocate for significant changes to ensure that this doesn’t occur again.”
Air India tragedy report was “the first stepping stone,” according to a statement from the family of Akeel Nanabawa, his wife Hannaa Vorajee, and their four-year-old daughter Sara Nanabawa, who perished in the collision. The family was still “working our way through the weight of our loss.”
“Going forward, we need integrity, openness, and a steadfast dedication to revealing the whole truth,” they stated.
We look for answers and justice, two things that are necessary for us to feel at all at peace. Although we accept God’s fate, understanding what transpired can calm our hearts and enable us to start the protracted healing process.
“Our top priority is to find the truth so that no other family ever has to experience the shock, uncertainty, and deep sadness we have over the past month.”
According to a lawyer representing some of the crash’s impacted families, the results are quite alarming.
“We’re still talking to and offering advice to families affected by the Air India crash,” stated Demetrius Danas, an aviation attorney at Irwin Mitchell. Naturally, their only request is to be given answers.
Air India tragedy was one of the deadliest plane crashes in terms of the amount of British fatalities, with 52 British citizens lost their lives.
According to the preliminary assessment, all crew members were deemed “fit to operate the flight” after being breathalyzed upon arrival at Ahmedabad airport.
The aircraft began to decrease altitude prior to crossing the airport perimeter wall, and no notable bird activity was observed in the vicinity of the flight path.
She responded, “Based on what I have seen so far, yes, but we do stand ready to provide any assistance,” when asked if she believed Indian officials were doing a decent job of determining the crash’s causes. The National Transportation Safety Board of the United States is also continuously involved.
“Air India is working closely with stakeholders, including regulators,” a representative for the airline stated. As their investigation moves on, we remain completely cooperative with the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau and other authorities.
