Uttarakhand Police have arrested junior assistant Pramendra Singh posted in Lansdowne office of Public Works Department (PWD) for embezzling 10 percent of the quotation money of the contractors, about Rs 32 lakh. Accused had transferred this amount to the bank accounts of his relatives and acquaintances. Police had registered a case of embezzlement and cheating of government funds.
Kotwal Lansdowne Manibhushan Srivastava said that on August 6, 2022, Lonivi’s Provincial Public Executive Engineer Prem Singh Bisht had given Tahrir in Kotwali, in which he complained about the embezzlement of 10 percent of the security deposit of the contractors. After receiving the Tahrir, the police started investigating the case by registering a case for embezzlement and cheating of government funds.
A police team was formed under the guidance of CO Operation Vibhav Saini to investigate the matter. The team found in the investigation that Pramendra Singh, junior assistant accused posted in the Lonivi Lansdowne office, during the online feeding and deposit work of the bill vouchers, transferred 10 percent security amount of Rs 31,75,096 to the bank accounts of his relatives and acquaintances of the registered contractors.
After the embezzlement case came to light, more sections of Prevention of Corruption Act were imposed on the accused. Kotwal told that as soon as the notice of arrest without warrant was issued by CO Operation Vibhav Saini, he and SSI Riyaz Ahmed arrested accused Pramendra Singh Rawat, resident of PWD Colony Lansdowne, native village Nilara Post Chorkhal, Patti from Gandhi Chowk taxi stand on the evening of 28 January. Kapolsyu Tehsil Pauri has been arrested. Action is being taken to produce him in the court.
