Uttar Pradesh, the stir among political parties has intensified regarding the municipal elections. Elections can be announced anytime after tomorrow i.e. 20th December. Till 20th Allahabad High Court has stayed the issuing of notification of civic elections.
This time the main contest is being told between the ruling BJP and the main opposition Samajwadi Party. The SP has started working on its strategy for the elections. Let us know with which strategy the Samajwadi Party is ready to enter the municipal elections? What is Akhilesh Yadav doing for this?
What is strategy of Samajwadi Party?
To understand this, we spoke to senior journalist Umashankar Srivastava. He said, ‘This time the Samajwadi Party was very confident of victory in the assembly elections. For this the party had strengthened the caste equation. Many experiments were also done to bring Dalit-Muslim and backward voters together. However, despite this he could not be much successful. After the elections, the news of displeasure of the Muslim voters with the SP started coming. BSP saw a good opportunity in this and Mayawati immediately started targeting Muslim voters. He said, ‘SP again did an experiment in Rampur, Khatauli and Mainpuri by-elections. This time he was also successful to a great extent.
Umashankar further told three points as to how SP is preparing for municipal elections.
1. Focus on Dalit voters again: During the assembly elections, Akhilesh Yadav had a dispute with Bhim Army’s Chandrashekhar Azad over the ticket. Due to this, the alliance of Chandrashekhar and SP was broken even before the elections. Now once again Akhilesh has associated Chandrashekhar with him. Chandrashekhar has a different craze among Dalit voters and especially among the youth. In Khatauli and Mainpuri, Azad campaigned for the SP and reaped benefits. SP won both the seats, although the game definitely went wrong in Rampur. Now once again Akhilesh is trying to bring Dalit voters together through Azad. Its effect can also be seen in the municipal elections.
2. Trying to persuade angry Muslim voters: Muslim voters were very angry with Akhilesh Yadav for not meeting Azam Khan in jail. Some Muslim leaders also left the party after the assembly elections. Many types of allegations were also made. Now Akhilesh is trying to remove that resentment. This is the reason why he does not leave Azam Khan behind anywhere. In every case, he is taking Azam with him. SP’s other strongman is also going to jail to meet Muslim leader and MLA from Kanpur, Irfan Solanki. Irfan is involved in many cases and is in jail for the last ten days.
3. Efforts to connect the youth: The SP chief has also made a plan to connect a large number of youths with the party. According to this, SP leaders and workers will raise every issue related to youth from road to assembly and parliament. Efforts have been started to create an atmosphere against the BJP by bringing the youth with them on all issues including unemployment, fee hike.
SP took these big decisions for civic elections
The Samajwadi Party has decided to contest all the posts of the municipal body on the party symbol. In such a situation, only active members and lifelong members of Samajwadi Bulletin will be able to contest this election. State President Naresh Uttam Patel has issued orders for this.
All the candidates for the post of Municipal Corporation Mayor, Councillor, Municipal Council President and Nagar Panchayat President will be contested on the symbol only.
Applications are being taken in the districts for the selection of candidates. Screening of applicants will be done in every district and after that five names will be sent to the state headquarters, from where the names of the candidates will be announced.
Those contesting elections will also have to attach the receipt of being an active member and life member of Samajwadi Bulletin along with the application.
Decision to keep special vigilance in new wards
The SP has instructed senior leaders and office bearers of the party to keep a special vigil in the new wards formed by including the villages falling in the urban areas. The local administration should be informed about the people of the village whose names have been struck off from joining the body. Along with this, the state office should also be informed about the whole matter. Along with this, instead of fighting with the people associated with the traditional vote bank of SP, decide the candidate on the basis of mutual consent.
