Patna: High Court has directed the Bihar government to make public the figures of deaths during the Corona period and inform all elected public representatives about the deaths in their respective areas within 24 hours. He said that it is a fundamental right of the people to know the statistics of births and deaths.
A division bench of Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice S Kumar, after hearing a petition filed by Shivani Kaushik and others, has a fundamental right of citizens to know about the birth and death statistics, but it appears that the death occurred during the Corona period.
The judges also expressed displeasure at the state government for not updating the digital portal related to birth and death regularly and directed the government to update it regularly, saying that in today’s era when the central and state government Committed to make Digital India a flagship programme, then it is the duty of the government to expose the more than ten crore people of the state to the exact number of deaths during the Corona period on the digital platform.
The judges said that this is also necessary so that the relatives of the deceased can get the benefit of the government’s schemes. The Bench directed that the Chief Secretary or Additional Chief Secretary or Development Commissioner of the State should immediately meet with the concerned officers to decide how this order of the court would be implemented.
