New Delhi: Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma became the batsman to hit most sixes in shortest format of cricket as he hit his first six during his unbeaten 46 in the second T20 International against Australia in Nagpur on Friday.
Rohit, who has played 138 matches so far, hit four sixes in his 20-ball innings and took his total number of sixes in T20 Internationals to 176, which is a new record. Rohit broke the record of New Zealand batsman Martin Guptill who has hit 172 sixes in 121 matches.
Guptill will be participating for the seventh time in the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia in October and then the battle of sixes between him and the Indian captain will also be interesting.
Apart from Rohit and Guptill, no other player is likely to be involved in this battle as West Indies’ Chris Gayle is at number three in the list of batsmen with most sixes in T20 International cricket. He is well behind Rohit and Guptill with 124 sixes.
Apart from Rohit for India, Virat Kohli (104 sixes in 106 matches) has hit more than 100 sixes in T20 International cricket. A total of 10 batsmen of the world have hit more than 100 sixes at the international level in this shortest format of cricket.
