Former National President of Congress, Rahul Gandhi, during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, renowned environmentalist and scientist of Uttarakhand, Prof. Shekhar Pathak, Prof. BS Butola and Prof. Met Prakash Upadhyay and had a long discussion on the Joshimath disaster while walking along with him during the yatra.
He asked for suggestions to deal with the Joshimath disaster, prevent landslides and help the people of the disaster-affected area. Giving this information, Vice President Organization and Administration Mathuradutt Joshi said that Rahul Gandhi expressed concern over the disaster caused by landslide in Joshimath.
Said, along with ensuring immediate rehabilitation of the people of the affected area, concrete steps should be taken to save Joshimath town. Said, the pictures of the present condition of Joshimath are quite frightening.
While discussing the Joshimath issue with State Congress President Karan Mahara, Rahul Gandhi also called upon the workers to provide all possible help to the people of the disaster-hit area.
Geoscientists and environmentalists involved in the yatra suggested to Rahul Gandhi that in order to protect the life, property and environment, the work of digging big tunnels in Joshimath area should be stopped immediately. For this, he has demanded Rahul Gandhi to raise his voice at the Centre.
