Panchkula: Special CBI court gave its verdict in famous Ranjit Singh murder case. The court has sentenced five convicts, including Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, to life imprisonment in this case.
In today’s hearing Gurmeet Ram Rahim was produced from Rohtak Sunaria Jail through video conferencing. While the other accused Krishanlal, Avtar, Jasveer and Sabdil appeared in the CBI court directly.
In view of the hearing in the CBI court, the police made tight security arrangements in Panchkula. Panchkula Police put up 17 police nakas in the city in which 700 jawans were deployed. The police brought the accused to the court amidst tight security.
On October 8, 2021, Special CBI Court of Haryana, Panchkula convicted rapists Dera chief, Krishan Lal, Avtar, Jasveer and Sabdil under sections 302 (murder) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC.
On the other hand, sharp shooters Jasveer and Sabdil, who shot dead former Dera manager Ranjit Singh, have also been convicted under the Arms Act.
Apart from this, rapist Gurmeet Ram Rahim is serving a 20-year sentence in Rohtak’s Sunaria jail for the rape of two sadhvis and life imprisonment for the murder of journalist Ramchandra Chhatrapati
