New Delhi: Between January 9 and 12, more than 300 employees of Parliament have been found infected with Kovid-19. Earlier till January 9, more than 400 of them were found positive during surprise tests.
So far, around 718 Parliament employees have been hit by the virus. A total of 204 are from the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, while the rest are from the Lok Sabha Secretariat and allied services.
In the first week of this month, more than 400 staff members were found infected during random testing.
On Tuesday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inspected the Parliament House Complex (PHC) to take stock of the health safety measures in the light of the recent rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country.
Birla visited the COVID-19 Testing Facility set up at Parliament House Annexe for Members of Parliament, officers and staff of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Secretariats and reviewed the preparedness there.
The Chairman of the Rajya Sabha and the Speaker of the Lok Sabha directed the General Secretaries of both the Houses to suggest measures for the safe conduct of the upcoming budget session.
“Both the Chairman, Rajya Sabha and the Speaker of the Lok Sabha have directed the Secretaries-General to review the adequacy of the COVID Protocol carried out during the last winter session in the prevailing situation and submit a proposal in this regard at the earliest,” the sources said.
