Washington: US President Joe Biden has called for the release of former US Navy soldier Mark Frerichs who was held hostage in Afghanistan. Mark was taken hostage about two years ago.
Former Marine Mark Frerich is an engineer by profession and hails from Lombard, Illinois, USA. He was kidnapped in January 2020 in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan.
According to sources, Mark is currently in the custody of the Haqqani network linked to the Taliban. On Monday, the second anniversary of his abduction, Biden said in a statement: “The threat to the safety of the American people or any innocent civilian is unacceptable and we believe that hostage-taking is an act of special cruelty and cowardice.”
US president said, “The Taliban must release Mark immediately before making any reliance on their aspirations to gain recognition and legitimacy.” There will be no talks about it.”
Mark’s sister Charlene Kakora issued a statement saying her family was “grateful” for President Biden’s statement.
